Tata Power Company Limited has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited for a transmission infrastructure project in Karnataka. The project will be developed through a special purpose vehicle named Ryapte Power Transmission Ltd under the Build-Own-Operate-Transfer model. According to the company, the project will provide transmission services for 35 years from the scheduled commercial operation date. The commercial operation timeline is set at 30 months after the SPV transfer.
The Karnataka transmission project involves the construction and commissioning of an approximately 250 Km transmission network. The scope includes 400 kV double-circuit lines, 220 kV double-circuit lines, and 220 kV underground cable infrastructure. The project also includes a 400 kV double-circuit transmission line between the Ryapte AIS substation and the proposed 400/220 kV Doddathaggalli GIS substation. Additional works comprise a 400 kV double-circuit line from the existing Kolar substation to the proposed Doddathaggalli GIS substation. Along with 220 kV double-circuit underground cables connecting Doddathaggalli with Ekarajpura, Hosakote and Sarjapura substations. Further, the project includes a 5×500 MVA, 400/220 kV AIS substation at Ryapte, two 125 MVAR 400 kV bus reactors, and a 3×500 MVA, 400/220 kV GIS substation at Doddathaggalli with two 125 MVAR 400 kV bus reactors.

The Karnataka transmission project carries annual transmission charges of 521.07 INR-Crore. Once completed, the network will strengthen power transmission infrastructure in the state. Additionally, the project will enhance grid connectivity through new transmission lines, substations, underground cable links, and associated power evacuation infrastructure.
