The West Bengal Government has proposed an estimated 1,200 INR-Crore bridge project across the Bhagirathi River between Kalna and Shantipur. The proposal was announced in the state budget as part of a broader infrastructure development plan. The project will establish a new transport link between the Hooghly and Nadia districts. Additionally, the state has proposed techno-economic studies for metro rail systems in Siliguri and the Asansol-Durgapur region.

The proposed bridge will span the Bhagirathi River and connect Kalna with Shantipur. The project aims to provide a permanent transport link for passenger and freight movement. Meanwhile, the state has proposed a 7.41 Km Chingrighata–New Town Elevated Corridor with an estimated investment of 900 INR-Crore. The corridor will connect EM Bypass and Salt Lake Sector V with New Town. It will include ramps, elevated parking bays, noise barriers, bridge health monitoring systems, and CCTV surveillance infrastructure. Further, the government will conduct feasibility studies for metro projects in Siliguri and the Asansol-Durgapur belt.
