National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to construct a major Outer Ring Road in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh’s capital city. The project is worth a total estimated 30,491 INR-Crore, and has been divided into four packages for construction. The proposed Outer Ring Road is a six-lane, high-speed corridor. It will run across 190 Km, and includes a 5.2 Km spur road near Guntur. The total construction length is anticipated to cover 195.13 Km. Meanwhile, the center has estimated the construction cost of the road to be 10,596 INR-Crore.
Package 1 will begin near Kanchikacherla in NTR district, close to the Vijayawada-Hyderabad highway. The 27 Km stretch will pass through Kondapalli, Pangidi forest areas and end near Mylavaram. Additionally, this section includes two tunnels covering 2.7 Km and 1.6 Km, respectively. A separate 930 Km stretch between 189 Km and 189.93 Km is also included in this package. Package 2 will cover 56 Km, stretching from the 27 Km point to the 83 Km point near Kolavennu in Krishna district’s Kankipadu mandal.

Package 3 of the Amaravati Outer Ring Road will cover 50.5 Km between the 83 Km point and Pulladigunta near Vatticherukuru mandal in Guntur district. Furthermore, this package will comprise 5.2 Km Narakoduru-Budampadu spur road. This section will also include a 4.8 Km bridge across the Krishna River near Valluripalem. The final section, Package 4, will cover 55.5 Km from the 133.5 Km point to the 189 Km point near Kanchikacherla. Moreover, the package includes a 400 Meter (M) tunnel at Veerullapadu and another major crossing over the Krishna River. The proposed bridge near Munnaluru will cover 3.15 Km.
The Amaravati Outer Ring Road will have three tunnels along its alignment, with 2 tunnels in Package 1 and another in Package 4. It will be a major high-speed corridor expected to provide an alternative route for heavy vehicles, separating the long-distance traffic from the roads serving urban and local commuters.
