Maharashtra approves 34.21 Km Mumbai Metro Line 5A project; cost at 18,130 INR-Crore

The Maharashtra Government has approved the Mumbai Metro Line 5A project, with a total investment of 18,130 INR-Crore. The project spans 34.21 Km and includes 19 stations across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The approval was granted during a Cabinet Sub-Committee on Infrastructure Development meeting.

The Metro Line 5A project will be developed in two phases. Phase 1 will connect Kapurbawdi to Dhamankar Naka, while Phase 2 will extend from Dhamankar Naka to Durgadi. The corridor will further extend connectivity to Kalyan and Ulhasnagar. The government has also approved funding support for land acquisition for three expressway projects in Vidarbha. These include the Nagpur–Gondia, Bhandara–Gadchiroli, and Nagpur–Chandrapur corridors. In addition, it has approved an allocation of 1,063 INR-Crore for Phase 2 infrastructure works related to the Nashik–Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027.

Once completed, the Mumbai Metro Line 5A project will improve connectivity across key urban centres in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. It is also likely to reduce travel time and support regional infrastructure development, while complementing expressway expansion and large-scale event infrastructure in the state.
