PM Modi launched development projects worth 4,000 INR-Crore across Sikkim

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for Sikkim development projects worth 4,000 INR-Crore on Tuesday, April 28. The projects are spread across multiple locations in Sikkim. They cover sectors such as transport, healthcare, education, urban infrastructure, power, tourism, and agriculture.

In the healthcare sector, authorities laid the foundation stone for a 100-bed Ayurveda hospital at Yangang in Namchi district. Meanwhile, they inaugurated a 30-bed Integrated Sowa Rigpa Hospital at NIT Deorali.

In education, authorities inaugurated the permanent campus of Sikkim University at Yangang. They also inaugurated the administrative block of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose University at Chakung, the Helen Lepcha Medical College at Sochyagang, and the Dentam Professional College in Gyalshing district. Additionally, they inaugurated model residential schools at Hee Gyathang, a Model Degree College at Mangsila in Mangan district, and a monastic hostel-cum-classroom at Boomtar Gumpa in Namchi. Authorities will also roll out IT-enabled infrastructure projects across 160 schools.

In transport, authorities laid the foundation stone for two double-lane steel arch bridges over the River Teesta at Sirwani and Lower Samdong. They also inaugurated the widening and strengthening of the road from Biringhang to Namchi via Kitchudumra.

In the power sector, authorities inaugurated the revamping of the Transmission and Distribution (T&D) network in Gangtok. In urban infrastructure, they inaugurated the Jan Seva Sachivalaya at Lumsey and the Civil Service Officers Institute in Gangtok. Additionally, they inaugurated housing projects, including units under the Sikkim Urban Garib Awas Yojana at Lingding, housing for police personnel, and Grade ‘C’ quarters at SAP Pangthang. Authorities also laid the foundation stone for the Sadbhaav Mandap at MG Marg. Further, authorities laid the foundation stone for sewerage system rehabilitation at Singtam town. They also inaugurated the pollution abatement scheme of River Rani Chu in Gangtok.

In tourism, authorities inaugurated the redevelopment of Ridge Precinct in Gangtok and eco-tourism infrastructure at Dodak in Soreng. They also inaugurated facilities at 18th Mile and Hangu Lake and a Yatri Niwas at Krishna Pranami Mandaldham, Nampthing. Additionally, they laid the foundation stone for an eco-pilgrimage center at Silnon in Gyalshing district. In agriculture, authorities inaugurated the Sikkim IFFCO Processing Plant. They also inaugurated indoor cricket infrastructure at Mining, Rangpo in Pakyong district.

The Sikkim development projects will strengthen multi-sector infrastructure across the state. They will improve connectivity, expand healthcare and education capacity, and enhance urban and tourism infrastructure. Overall, the projects are expected to support balanced regional development and long-term infrastructure growth in Sikkim.
