BHEL secures 21,000 INR-Crore EPC contract for 2,400 MW Meja Thermal Power Project Stage-II

State-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract worth over 21,000 INR-Crore for the Meja Supercritical Thermal Power Project Stage-II in Prayagraj district, Uttar Pradesh. Meja Urja Nigam Private Limited (MUNPL), a joint venture between NTPC Limited and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL), awarded the contract. BHEL received the Notification of Award on Thursday, June 4.

The Meja Thermal Power Project will add three supercritical thermal power units of 800 MW each. This will take the project’s total planned capacity to 2,400 MW. Under the EPC package, BHEL will undertake design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, construction, erection, testing, and commissioning activities. Additionally, the company will execute the project through an International Competitive Bidding process. The project carries a completion timeline of 70 months from the date of award.

Once completed, the Meja Thermal Power Project will strengthen power generation infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh. The project will also add significant baseload capacity to support rising electricity demand from industrial, commercial, and urban sectors.
