Center approves 1,468 INR-Crore VGF support for 9 Andhra Pradesh medical colleges

The Central Government has approved an estimated 1,468 INR-Crore in Viability Gap Funding (VGF) for nine medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh. The funding will support the development of medical education and healthcare infrastructure across the state. The approval marks a significant financial commitment towards strengthening government medical institutions in Andhra Pradesh.

Under Phase I, the state government has proposed medical colleges at Markapuram, Adoni, and Madanapalle. The total project cost for these institutions is estimated at 592.70 INR-Crore, 634.50 INR-Crore, and 646.22 INR-Crore, respectively. Under the VGF scheme, the center has approved support of 100.76 INR-Crore for Markapuram, 158.63 INR-Crore for Adoni, and 174.50 INR-Crore for Madanapalle. Meanwhile, Phase II includes medical colleges at Amalapuram, Bapatla, Narsipatnam, Palakollu, and Penukonda. These projects carry a combined cost of 3,253.55 INR-Crore. The center has approved VGF assistance of 274.54 INR-Crore for Amalapuram, 275.44 INR-Crore for Bapatla, 191.80 INR-Crore for Narsipatnam, 216.74 INR-Crore for Palakollu, and 187.83 INR-Crore for Penukonda. Additionally, Pulivendula Medical College will not require VGF support as a majority of the civil works have already been completed. The state government will float a separate PPP tender to complete the remaining works.

The Andhra Pradesh medical colleges initiative will enhance access to medical education and healthcare services. Furthermore, the funding will support the creation of stronger healthcare infrastructure in multiple regions of the state. The investment will contribute to the development of a larger pool of trained medical professionals.
