The Gujarat Government has approved the Mahi bridge-cum-barrage project with an estimated investment of 1,700 INR-Crore. The project will be developed near Dharuvran in Anand district. It aims to strengthen irrigation, drinking water supply and regional connectivity. The state government expects to transform infrastructure across central and south Gujarat through the integrated development.

The Mahi bridge-cum-barrage project combines a six-lane bridge with a barrage across the Mahi River. The project will include a 4.5 Km river-wide reinforced concrete barrage with 70 gates. Each gate will measure 16.4 M in width. The barrage will create a freshwater reservoir with a live storage capacity of approximately 183 Million Cubic Meters. Additionally, the project includes a six-lane road linking the villages of Vasad in Anand district and Jitardi in Vadodara district. The proposed road will span nearly 50 Km. The reservoir will also recharge groundwater and reduce salinity in nearby agricultural areas.

The government estimates that the project could create approximately 409 villages and support regional economic growth.
