CM Majhi lays foundation for 65,000 INR-Crore JSW steel plant at Dhinkia

JSW Utkal Steel Limited subsidiary of JSW Limited has commenced construction work for the steel plant at Dhinkia, Odisha. CM Mohan Charan Majhi laid the foundation stone for the project on Wednesday, May 27. The proposed steel facility will involve an estimated investment of 65,000 INR-Crore, while JSW will invest nearly 1.25 Lakh INR-Crore including associated infrastructure and allied facilities.

The proposed steel plant will have a planned production capacity of 13.2 MTPA. During the event, authorities also laid foundation stones for the coke oven, steel melting shop, blast furnace, captive port and sinter plant. Initially, the company planned to begin construction after completion of the pellet plant by 2028. However, the company has now advanced the construction schedule. These units are expected to become operational by 2029. The project is also expected to generate nearly 32,000 jobs.

Once operational, the JSW steel plant in Dhinkia will strengthen Odisha’s steel manufacturing capacity and industrial infrastructure. The project will also support port-led industrial development near Paradip and expand heavy industrial investments in the state.
