Wipro Campus in Gopanpally, Hyderabad presents a sustainable workplace rooted in its regional and climatic context. The project spans 38 Acres within a larger 101 Acres master plan. It forms part of the second phase and introduces four new towers alongside three existing buildings.
The campus accommodates nearly 11,000 employees. It adapts the vernacular courtyard typology to a modern high-rise format. As a result, it creates a functional, collaborative, and healthy work environment. The development has achieved an IGBC Platinum rating, exceeding conventional energy performance benchmarks.

Design Strategy at Wipro Campus
The design responds to two primary objectives. First, it addresses Hyderabad’s tropical climate. Second, it foptimises ground coverage for nearly 1 Million-SqFt of office space.
The team identified a 15 Acres low-lying natural aquifer through rainfall and geological studies. They then developed multiple iterations of the built form using courtyard planning and varying volumes. These iterations were tested against solar radiation, wind movement, and daylight performance.
As a result, the micro-courtyard typology emerged as the most effective solution. It minimises solar gain in outdoor areas while improving wind flow and daylight penetration.

Spatial Planning and Built Form
Wipro Campus features four towers rising from a shared podium. The podium encloses multiple courtyards and functions as a central social hub. It houses key amenities such as a food court, library, gym, and recreational spaces. Shaded pedestrian streets connect these functions, encouraging interaction and movement. The podium also acts as a multi-functional arrival plaza, achieved at a significantly reduced cost compared to conventional designs.
The towers follow a north-south orientation. This positioning opens the east-west facades to prevailing winds, enabling natural ventilation. Building heights range from 9 to 14 floors, which helps reduce scale while enhancing self-shading and airflow. Terraces extend from the towers, creating outdoor workspaces and strengthening the connection to the environment.

Passive Design and Climate Response
The design integrates multiple passive strategies to improve thermal comfort. Evaporative cooling supports performance during hot-dry periods, while wind-driven ventilation assists during humid conditions.
Inspired by traditional baolis and ghats, the landscape incorporates water features that aid cooling. In addition, fountains at the entrance reference Hyderabad’s Nizami heritage while enhancing microclimate conditions.
The façade reduces heat gain while allowing daylight. A 70:30 wall-to-window ratio ensures balanced performance. The use of exposed brick cavity walls improves insulation and reduces thermal load. Earth-toned clay bricks, inspired by traditional Hyderabadi markets, further enhance energy efficiency.

Systems and Performance at Wipro Campus
Wipro Campus integrates advanced systems to optimise energy and water performance. Moreover, the floor plates follow a modular layout, allowing flexibility in workspace planning. Their narrow width enables deeper daylight penetration and reduces reliance on artificial lighting.
Workstations are arranged perpendicular to glazing to minimise glare. Furthermore, a central circulation core improves movement and supports adaptable layouts.
The campus reduces water consumption by 70%. It harvests 100% of rooftop rainwater and manages surface runoff through percolation systems and ponds. It also recycles 100% of greywater using an STP-MBR system.
An underfloor air distribution system covering 0.5 Million-SqFt works alongside IoT-enabled monitoring platforms. CFD simulations guide airflow design, ensuring efficient cross-ventilation. Radiant cooling, ceiling fans, and efficient chillers further enhance performance.
The campus achieves an energy performance index of 65 kWh/m²/year. This reflects a 27% reduction compared to conventional green buildings.
