Cabinet clears 2,169 INR-Crore Ahmedabad metro expansion project

The Union Cabinet has approved the Ahmedabad Metro expansion project with an investment of an estimated 2,169 INR-Crore. The project involves the construction of a 6.032 Km metro corridor connecting Koteshwar Road to Ahmedabad Airport in Gujarat. The approval forms part of the ongoing expansion of the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro network.

The corridor will comprise five stations, including four elevated stations and one underground station. Planned stations include Ashram Road, Koteshwar Prachin Mandir, Sabarmati River, Sardar Nagar, and Airport. The total project cost, including interest during construction, has been estimated at 2,169.04 INR-Crore. The project is scheduled for completion within four years from the date of approval.

The Ahmedabad Metro expansion will add critical urban transport infrastructure and strengthen airport connectivity. The corridor incorporates both elevated and underground sections along with associated metro systems. Upon completion, the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro network will expand to 77.63 Km, supporting future mobility requirements across the region.
