The Union Cabinet has approved two semiconductor units with an estimated total investment of 3,936 INR-Crore on Tuesday, May 5. The approved projects will be developed in Gujarat and include advanced semiconductor manufacturing facilities.
The approved developments include India’s first commercial Mini/Micro-LED display facility based on Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology and a semiconductor packaging unit. One project will be set up in Dholera, while another will come up in Surat. The facilities will support semiconductor fabrication, assembly, testing, and packaging operations. The combined projects are expected to generate around 2,230 jobs.

Once implemented, the India Semiconductor Mission units will strengthen domestic chip manufacturing capabilities. They will also support supply chain development and reduce import dependence in the electronics sector.
