The railway line linking Tambaram will receive an upgrade after the Railways invited bids for the Guduvanchery-Chengalpattu fourth railway line. The project will cover an anticipated 21.5 Km and is estimated to be 273.26 INR-Crore.
The Guduvanchery-Chengalpattu railway line will include construction of the new track, associated bridges and structures. Additionally, the railway line will comprise signalling, telecommunications, and overhead electrification. The track for this project is designed to support train speeds of up to 160 Kmph.

The development is part of the proposed fourth line connecting the Tambaram-Chengalpattu corridor, with a completion period of 730 days. Moreover, it will ease congestion and enable the extension of the dedicated suburban grid up to Chengalpattu.
