MMR Infrastructure Panel clears 22,611 INR-Crore tunnel, elevated road and metro projects

The Maharashtra Cabinet’s Infrastructure Committee has approved MMR infrastructure projects worth an estimated 22,611 INR-Crore across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The approvals include the Gaimukh–Fountain Hotel tunnel, the Fountain Hotel–Bhayandar elevated corridor, and two Navi Mumbai Metro extensions. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis chaired the committee meeting that cleared the projects.

The committee approved 17,036 INR-Crore for the road connectivity project and 5,575 INR-Crore for Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1A and Metro Line 2. The road project includes a 5.86 Km six-lane tunnel between Gaimukh and Fountain Hotel and a 9.58 Km six-lane elevated road between Fountain Hotel and Bhayandar. The tunnel will use Tunnel Boring Machine technology and feature a 14 M diameter. Authorities have set a five-year completion target. Meanwhile, the Metro expansion will create a continuous 28 Km corridor from Sagar Sangam to Navi Mumbai International Airport. The extension will add 13 stations and is expected to serve nearly 12 lakh passengers daily.
