Odisha approves 4-laning of Bhawanipatna–Khariar road corridor

The Odisha Government has approved the Bhawanipatna Khariar road project to upgrade the existing 2-lane corridor into a 4-lane road. The proposed corridor will improve connectivity between Kalahandi and Nuapada districts. Authorities have earmarked approximately 640 INR-Crore for road construction works and an additional 91 INR-Crore for bridge construction and allied infrastructure.

The project will cover a road stretch of approximately 70 Km. It includes the construction of 5 major bridges and 15 minor bridges along the corridor. Additionally, authorities will repair and renovate the existing bridge over the Tel River. The upgraded road aims to support faster transportation and improve movement across the region.

The state government expects the corridor expansion to reduce travel time and fuel consumption. Additionally, the improved connectivity will support transportation of agricultural produce and commercial goods. Once completed, the Bhawanipatna Khariar road project is expected to strengthen regional road infrastructure and support economic activity across western Odisha.
