The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved an estimated 8,970 INR-Crore project for a 4-lane Guwahati to Tezpur highway in Assam. The corridor will span nearly 135.871 Km under NH-15 and be developed on BOT Toll Mode. The project also includes a 4.9 Km Emergency Landing Facility in Tezpur, coordinated with the IAF, to ease congestion on NH-27 along the Brahmaputra’s south side.
The Guwahati to Tezpur highway project will feature five major bypasses covering 58.7 Km. This will reduce traffic in dense areas such as Baihata Chariali, Sipajhar, Kharupetia, Dekiajuli, and Tezpur. It will also include 15 major bridges, 30 minor bridges, 19 flyovers, one elephant underpass, 46 underpasses, and 210 Km of service roads.

Furthermore, the Guwahati to Tezpur highway will double average travel speeds, cut travel time in half, improve road safety, and enhance fuel efficiency. The upgraded corridor will connect key economic, social, and logistics nodes across Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Moreover, it will link eight PM Gati-Shakti economic nodes, two aspirational districts, three tourist sites including Kaziranga National Park, and seven logistics hubs such as airports, railway stations, and waterway terminals.
