The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved three major rail projects in Tamil Nadu. These will span a total route length of approximately 383 Km with an estimated cost of 6, 126 INR-Crore.
The Tamil Nadu rail projects include adding the third and fourth lines between Arakkonam and Renigunta, covering 77 Km. These will be implemented at an estimated 1,936 INR-Crore. Moreover, it will include the construction of 12 major bridges and 221 minor bridges. The other projects involve the doubling of the 147 Km Hosur-Omalur section and the 159 Km Salem-Karur-Dindigul route. The Hosur-Omalur project will be developed at 1,948 INR-Crore, comprising the construction of 20 major bridges and 359 minor bridges.
Meanwhile, the doubling of the Salem-Karur-Dindigul railway section has been approved at an estimated cost of 2,242 INR-Crore. The project includes the construction of 18 major bridges and 241 minor bridges.

The addition of the third and fourth lines in Arakkonam and Renigunta will improve connectivity to SIDCO (Small Industries Development Corporation) and SIPCOT (State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu). The doubling of the Hosur-Omalur section will reduce travel time for trains heading to southern destinations. Meanwhile, the Salem-Karur-Dindigul section will strengthen freight transportation for MSME clusters. Together, the three projects will add to the rail infrastructure pipeline across key industrial and freight corridors in Tamil Nadu.
