Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone for the power project by Adani Power Limited (APL) in Chapar. The 3200 MW thermal power plant will see an estimated cost of 48,000 INR-Crore. It is a part of the broader 63,000 INR-Crore power investment by Adani Group.
The Chapar plant will comprise four 800 MW units and use ultra-supercritical technology, with high-efficiency systems and modern environmental safeguards. Additionally, the 63,000 INR-Crore investment includes two pumped storage plants worth nearly 15,000 INR-Crore. These projects, developed by Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) will have a combined capacity of 2,700 MW.

Adani power project in Assam will be developed in phases, with the first 800 MW to be commissioned initially, followed by a second 800 MW unit. Together, the two units will take the plant’s capacity to 1600 MW by 2031. Moreover, the full 3200 MW capacity is targeted by 2035. The project will add to the state’s power infrastructure development pipeline. The project forms part of a broader investment programme covering thermal and pumped storage power generation capacity.
