The Delhi Government has approved multiple infrastructure project worth over 1,000 INR-Crore for Yamuna rejuvenation and sewage network upgrades in the national capital. The approvals were announced on Sunday, May 24. The projects will focus on sewage treatment, drain pollution control and water infrastructure development across Delhi.
The government has approved 12 Decentralised Sewage Treatment Plants (DSTPs) in the Najafgarh region under the Center’s AMRUT scheme. These projects will involve an estimated investment of around 860 INR-Crore and will create a combined treatment capacity of 46.5 MGD. The plan includes a 17 MGD treatment plant at Mitraon. Additional facilities will be developed at Kair, Kanganheri, Kakrola, Dichaon Kalan, Galibpur, Sarangpur, Shikarpur, Hasanpur, Jaffarpur, Kazipur and Khera Dabar. Further, the government has approved the upgradation of Phase I of the Keshopur Sewage Treatment Plant at an estimated cost of 122 INR-Crore. The upgrade will increase treatment capacity from 12 MGD to 18 MGD and includes an 11-year operation and maintenance component. Additionally, the Delhi Jal Board will construct new rainwater harvesting structures and restore existing systems across departments.

The Delhi Yamuna rejuvenation project aims to reduce untreated sewage discharge and strengthen wastewater infrastructure across the capital. The approved developments will also strengthen groundwater recharge systems and support long-term water security in the capital.
