COEP Technological University and JSW Projects, a JSW Group company, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish an Advanced Research and Development (R&D) Center in Pune. The Center will have a total estimated investment of 800 INR-Crore, and will be developed at the university’s Chikhali Research Park.
JSW R&D Center is a two-phase program that will establish a cell research and development center in Pune. The facility will include a cell validation center, while creating a platform for battery prototyping and pilot-scale development. Phase I will focus on designing, simulating, and prototyping indigenous lithium-ion and other advanced chemistry cells. It will also include sodium-ion batteries. Meanwhile, Phase II will scale the facility into a cell validation center capable of producing cells with capacities ranging from 100 Ah to 600 Ah.

JSW R&D Center aims to bring university research and industrial application onto a common platform in Pune. The project is expected to support applications across electric mobility, grid-scale battery energy storage, and clean energy. Furthermore, it will build capabilities in battery research, engineering, and manufacturing.
