Odisha Cabinet has approved four major irrigation projects worth over 600 INR-Crore to expand water infrastructure across Balasore, Khurda, Puri, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Keonjhar districts. The investment will create or strengthen irrigation potential across nearly 24,000 Hectares (Ha) of agricultural land. Additionally, the projects will benefit more than 130 villages and improve water availability for farming. The approvals cover the Integrated Anandapur Barrage Project and the Parbati Giri Mega Lift Irrigation Scheme.

The Government of Odisha has sanctioned two packages under the Anandapur Barrage Project and two lift irrigation clusters. The first package will cover over 7,000 Hectares (Ha) in Balasore through the Salandi Left Main Canal at 145.71 INR-Crore. The second package will irrigate 5,052 Hectares (Ha) using an underground gravity flow pipeline network at 112.52 INR-Crore. Furthermore, five lift irrigation schemes across Khurda and Puri will create irrigation potential for about 7,700 Hectares (Ha). Meanwhile, four additional projects in Rayagada and Gajapati will cover another 4,050 hectares.

The irrigation projects will further strengthen agricultural productivity and encourage efficient water use across Odisha. The Anandapur Barrage packages are expected to be completed within 24 months, while the lift irrigation clusters are expected to finish within 36 months. The schemes will also promote micro-irrigation, support crop diversification, and encourage farmers to shift from water-intensive paddy cultivation to higher-value cash crops. Consequently, the investment will improve rural livelihoods and enhance long-term agricultural sustainability.
