Railway Board approves 1,936 INR-Crore Arakkonam-Renigunta railway line expansion

The Railway Board has sanctioned the 3rd and 4th lines of the Arakkonam-Renigunta railway expansion project in Tamil Nadu. The project will cover approximately 77 Km, and is worth an estimated 1,936.46 INR-Crore. 

The project will add two more lines to the Arakkonam-Renigunta section. It is a part of the Mumbai-Chennai high-density network. Additionally, it will include 12 major and 221 minor bridges. Of the sanctioned completion cost for the Arakkonam-Renigunta railway line, an estimated 1,504.42 INR-Crore is earmarked for civil works, while 225.58 INR-Crore is set for electrical and traction-related works. The project is scheduled to be completed within 3 years.

The Arakkonam-Renigunta railway line is among five multitracking projects. These projects will have an estimated total cost of 10,021 INR-Crore. Together, the projects cover about 540 Km across 17 districts in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka. The project completion is expected by 2029-30.
