Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) and National Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries Park-AP (NSHIP-AP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a shipyard at Dugarajapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. MDL will invest an estimated 15,000 INR-Crore to develop this greenfield project over the next five to seven years.
The proposed shipyard will have a design capacity of 1.2 Million Gross Tonnes a year. It will also have the capacity to build a range of commercial vessels, including tankers, bulk carriers, container ships, LNG carriers, and other specialized large vessels. This MoU is a major step taken towards establishing a shipbuilding and ship-repair cluster in Dugarajapatnam. Meanwhile, according to the techno-economic feasibility report, the shipbuilding and ship repair yard will cost an estimated 29,254 INR-Crore.

MDL will add to the state’s expanding maritime infrastructure pipeline through planned shipbuilding, ship repair and port infrastructure in Dugarajapatnam. Additionally, the state government is planning a greenfield shipbuilding-cum-port cluster at Dugarajapatnam. The Center will develop the proposed port with an estimated cost of 9,513 INR-Crore. The proposed developments will create new industrial and logistics infrastructure around Dugarajapatnam, supporting the state’s broader maritime manufacturing ecosystem.
